Must see Colorado
Greetings,
Oh man, I was thinking of blogging when I start my clinical placement but I couldn't wait. I've done some interesting stuff since my last entry. Since then I've been to Six Flags, Magic Mountain north from LA, it's a theme park with awesome roller-coasters. I went with my cousins, they say its tradition to take their Australian cousins to this particular theme park. I had such a great time even though by my second roller-coaster ride I became very dizzy and nauseated (weak) I still continued till closing time, we were able to get in at least 8-10 rides, mostly roller-coasters. That's pretty good on a busy day. My favourite ride was called X2 because the seats in the roller-coaster actually moved at certain turns of the ride that added greater enjoyment.
After the theme park, the next day we had a little feast at my aunties house again. Practically the reason they did it was to send me off for Colorado because it was probably the last time (until next time of course) I would see my cousins. Great food! I also was able to see my Grandma's burial site, I wasn't there to see my Grandma get buried but I was able to say some things to her when I went to the graveyard. I prayed with my family. It was really nice actually.
So early Sunday we flew to Colorado, Vail and when we arrived we were picked up by a EMS Command vehicle with a charming lady that's actually going to work in the same ambulance service where I'm going to have clinical placement. So it was good to start off like that. This week is actually the conference for EMS staff globally come together to discuss about a new type of paramedic in rural areas. Community Paramedics are trained with physicians that expand their scope of practice in the field of paramedicine. Basically they are able to create better and accessible services in real rural areas through these new community paramedics. Not only do we discuss about this particular topic, we touched on the essence of understanding "community", "care" "international standardization of naming" and side topics like "professionalism" which I found stimulating. Elder, more experienced and bright EMS staff all over gave their 2 mins worth (more like a hour and a half)on the focus of the conference.
Well tomorrow I have to do a presentation with my classmates about our ourselves as students doing a degree in Paramedics and our university. Here are some pictures us doing some preparation for the presentation.
Some of us were updating Facebook
And some of us had Altitude Sickness.
